GOLD PANDA & THREE TRAPPED TIGERS @ THE THEKLA

So this is my first post in a while, sorry anyone who reads this, if anyone does. i have been in taiwan for 5 weeks and since my arrival back to the UK I havent really felt like writing this. Anyway, last week i attended a concert at the Thekla in Bristol of Gold Panda and Three Trapped Tigers. First up was Gold panda, who had been reccomended by a friend, and to be fair to him, his music is pretty good, however i must say the live performance left alot to be desired as it was just a man crouched hunched over machines, and his attempts at creating atmospheric soundscapes where a little tawdry, just speeding the songs up towards the end and many samples at once, which just made me feel a little like i was just watching somone playing on leafcutter john's forester software.
next was three trapped tigers, who i was far more impressed by, mainly synth lead however they sounded like some crazy post punk band orchestrated by squarepusher. unfortunately they really didnt look the part at all, personally i didn't judge them on that but the friend i was seeing them with didnt seem impressed and when i asked him why he said "the drummer pissed him off". abit of a shame about their name aswell.
all in all it was fun but bristol is really not a good place to see live music sometimes, it can be really dead, this was one of those nights, i got the impression neither band was really on their best form simply because they didnt see the point (there where only about 30 people there, which was disapointing, i felt a little cheated as i think both bands could be much better in more lively situations.
gold panda is playing at offset this weekend but i wont be making the effort to catch his set.
